What Readers Say

A World in a Grain of Sand
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Carol's memories. I like her writing style, especially her clever and uncanny way of relating them to life as we get older. She has a very pleasant way of recalling and describing past events. Then she relates them to everyday life with appreciation, good humor, and often candid reminders. I spent the last twenty years of my working life serving senior citizens, and I found Carol's writing spot on.

Creative Aging
The book Creative Aging by Carol Van Klompenburg was a very enjoyable read. Chapters are short and usually with her personal life story. Carol brought things to mind about aging that I had not thought of before. The ideas were things that will be helpful as I move forward in my third phase of life.

Child of the Plains
I really enjoyed reading Child of the Plains. The book is both vivid and open about growing up in small-town Iowa.
My childhood was similar to Carol’s, but after reading her book, I think about my past differently. I thought I was the only person who experienced certain childhood joys and pains. Now I know that I am not alone in those experiences.
I read many memoirs, and I especially appreciate this memoir’s insights and honesty.

Tending Beauty
Tending Beauty is nothing short of delightful! As Carol expounds the joys and frustrations of tending the flora and fauna in her garden playgrounds, she defines life itself. Her awe of nature and her creativity will capture your undivided attention. I dare you to read just one essay or poem and then put the book down. You won't be able to!
