New Book!

When I started to write the anecdotes that grew into my latest book, I thought I was writing about my household stuff as a record for my children and grandchildren. But fellow writers, editors, and readers said, “No! As you tell the story of your stuff, you tell the story of your heritage, your values, and your life. I laugh and cry as I read them. I see the stories in my own stuff. And I want to tell my stories too!”
And so, the lively little tales, conceived for just a few descendants became a book to bring  inspire, inform, motivate, and entertain.
It is especially great for those gaze at their own treasures of a lifetime and dream of telling their own stories. It provides a good model for doing just that. And it makes a great gift for them too!

As older adults survey their belongings, they wonder what will happen to these possessions after they die. A World in a Grain of Sand offers fifty-two lively little stories about beloved belongings. These tales of treasures are both deeply personal and amazingly universal. They revel in beauty, celebrate friendships, and mourn loss.

As retirees read Creative Aging, they chuckle and recognize themselves. When Carol retired, she discovered that, like many her age, she was in massive denial about her age. She launched a year-long, highly-read newspaper column to share her life and learning. Creative Aging is a collection of those delightful columns.

Growing up in Orange City, Iowa, Carol’s childhood memories are both funny and poignant. She guides readers through her tears in a school principal’s office and her terror that Jesus would return to earth as she watched her first-ever movie. Readers from small Midwestern towns will identify with her and remember their own childhoods.

Whether you garden a lot, a little, or not at all, you will relish your forays into the garden alongside Carol Van Klompenburg. Using prose, poetry, and color pictures, she marvels at a butterfly, grumbles at chipmunks, makes war on weeds, and relishes the beauty of flowers. As she plays with words, she sheds light on both the inner and outer worlds of the gardening experience. (50 stories and poems, color photos, $20.00, shipping included.
